Excerpts from Reuters
Religious authorities in Malaysia on 24/8/2009 freed a woman who was on her way to a jail in the capital, Kuala Lumpur, to be caned for drinking beer.
|
"The warrant cannot be executed," Sharafuddin Zainal Ariffin, head of enforcement for the state of Pahang's Islamic Affairs Department, told reporters after Kartika Sari Dewi Shukarno, 32, was returned to her house.
She would have been the first woman to be caned in this Southeast Asian country.
My Comment
What happened? I was shocked to read the short news from Reuters, however, I further checked on the validity of such news from the local newspaper and found that the actual story is that the caning will only be executed after the holy month of Ramadhan.
